INSOMNIA

Having a good night’s sleep and waking up refreshed in the morning is one of the most important

things that we can do to live healthy and active lives.  Many of us struggle to fall asleep, or wake up often or too early. Scientific studies have determined that we need about 7 hours of sleep to stay in good health.  Inadequate sleep or poor quality sleep can result in drowsiness during the day and difficulty concentrating.  Over the long term, this can cause weight gain, high blood pressure, lessened resistance to infection, diabetes and cancer.

Many factors can lead to poor sleep, including medications, underlying medical conditions, circadian rhythm disorders and sleep apnea.  While sleeping pills can provide temporary relief, they usually do not address the underlying problem.  If you have difficulty sleeping, you may have a serious but treatable medical condition.  A long term solution to your sleep disturbance requires a detailed evaluation and a personalized treatment plan.

If you or anyone you know suffers from a sleep disturbance, we would be glad to help.
