NORTHERN RESPIRATORY SPECIALIST, PC

Preparation for sleep study

Prior to your sleep study appointment, the following is required:

     1. Refrain from napping on the day of the test.

     2. Do not consume any alcohol on the day of the test.

     3. Do not consume caffeine (Coffee, soda, tea, etc.), past 10 AM on the day of the test.

     4. Just before you leave home, bathe or shower, wash hair and do not use any make-up, hair spray or conditioners.  This is required so that the various electrodes adhere to the body.  Skin oils, hair  products and make-up interfere with this procedure.

     5. No nail polish.

     6. Bring appropriate sleeping attire (two-piece pajama  preferred).

     7. If you are on medications, take as usual unless  otherwise instructed by your physician.

     8. When it is time for the test to begin, reading is not  allowed.

     9. You may bring your pillow if you wish.  Stacking of  pillows is not done unless your doctor specifically allows it.  This is so we set proper positioning during the recordings.

    10. Report to the Sleep Lab at the appropriate time  indicated, ring the door-bell and the Technician will  come down and let you in.  You will be ending your study by 6 AM the following day.  Please make arrangements to  be picked up by 6 AM if you do not drive to the sleep lab.

    11.  Men must shave before coming for sleep study.
